What is PX98?

PX98 is a premium automotive lubricant brand developed by PRINCE GLOBAL PTE. LTD. of Singapore. The range covers passenger car engine oils, commercial diesel engine oils, automatic and manual transmission fluids, gear oils, coolants and vehicle service fluids, formulated against API, ILSAC, ACEA and OEM performance levels.

Who manufactures PX98 lubricants?

PX98 is developed and manufactured by PRINCE GLOBAL PTE. LTD., a Singapore lubricant manufacturer with decades of experience supplying motorists, workshops and fleets across international markets. Blending and packing are governed by an ISO 9001 quality management system, from raw material intake through to finished goods release.

What does SAE 5W-30 actually mean?

SAE 5W-30 describes two viscosity measurements, not one. The number before the W is the winter rating: how readily the oil still flows when cold, which governs how quickly it reaches the top of the engine on a cold start. A lower number flows better cold. The number after the dash is the viscosity at operating temperature, around 100 degrees Celsius, which governs the strength of the oil film between loaded parts once the engine is hot. A 5W-30 therefore flows like a 5-weight cold and protects like a 30-weight hot.

Can I use SAE 5W-30 where SAE 5W-40 is specified?

Use the grade the vehicle manufacturer specifies. The two grades behave identically on a cold start and differently once hot: a 40-weight leaves a thicker film at operating temperature, which is why it is specified for engines that run hotter, harder or with wider bearing clearances. Substituting a thinner grade can reduce film strength under load, and substituting a thicker one can slow oil delivery and cost fuel economy. Where an engine is approved for both, the handbook usually ties the choice to ambient temperature.

What do API SP and ILSAC GF-6A mean?

They are the current service categories for gasoline engine oils. API SP is the American Petroleum Institute category introduced in 2020; alongside the wear, deposit and oxidation limits of earlier categories it adds protection against low-speed pre-ignition and improved timing chain wear protection. ILSAC GF-6A carries the same requirements and adds fuel economy limits. GF-6A is backward compatible, so an oil meeting it can be used where an earlier ILSAC category was specified, provided the viscosity grade is right.

Is SAE 0W-20 safe in a hybrid?

Yes, where the manufacturer specifies it, and hybrids are a case where the low winter rating earns its keep. A hybrid petrol engine stops and restarts constantly and spends much of its life at lower oil temperatures than a conventional engine, so the great majority of its wear happens in the seconds after a start. A 0W-20 reaches the valve train faster from cold than a heavier grade. What matters as much as the grade is the performance level: look for API SP-RC and ILSAC GF-6A, which cover the deposit control a hybrid's duty cycle demands.

What is Low SAPS, and why does a diesel particulate filter need it?

SAPS stands for sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur, three by-products of conventional additive chemistry. Ash does not burn off; it accumulates in a diesel particulate filter and progressively blocks it, and phosphorus and sulphur poison the catalyst in an SCR or DOC after-treatment system. A Low SAPS oil restricts all three so that a modern Euro IV, V or VI engine with DPF, DOC or SCR hardware reaches its intended service life. Fitting a full SAPS oil to such an engine shortens filter life whatever else the oil does well.

Which PX98 oil suits a turbocharged GDI engine?

Match the viscosity grade in the handbook first, then the performance level. Across the PX98 range the ECO POWER, ADVAN POWER and TURBO POWER families cover naturally aspirated, turbocharged and gasoline direct injection engines, in grades from SAE 0W-20 through SAE 5W-50, against API SP, API SP-RC, ILSAC GF-6A and ACEA levels. What is LSPI, and how does an engine oil prevent it?

LSPI is low-speed pre-ignition: the fuel and air charge ignites before the spark, at low engine speed under high load. It is a characteristic risk of small, highly boosted direct injection petrol engines, and a single event can damage a piston or a connecting rod. Oil chemistry is part of the cause and part of the cure, because the detergent system influences how readily pre-ignition starts. Balancing calcium against magnesium detergents suppresses it, and both API SP and ILSAC GF-6A include a dedicated LSPI engine test that an oil has to pass.

What is the difference between ATF, CVT fluid and DCT fluid?

They are three different fluids and they are not interchangeable. Conventional automatic transmission fluid is tuned for the friction behaviour of a torque converter and wet clutch packs. CVT fluid does the opposite job at the pulley and steel belt or chain, where it has to maintain high metal-to-metal traction rather than let surfaces slip. DCT fluid serves a dual clutch, combining wet clutch friction control with gear lubrication and, on many units, hydraulic actuation. Filling one with another causes shudder, slip or accelerated wear, so the fluid must match the transmission specification. Browse the transmission fluids.

What is the difference between DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluid?

Both are glycol-ether based and the two mix safely, so DOT 5.1 can be used where DOT 4 is specified. The difference is boiling point: DOT 5.1 holds a higher dry and wet boiling point, which is the margin against the vapour lock that produces a long pedal under repeated heavy braking. Note that DOT 5 without the decimal is a different thing entirely, a silicone fluid that must never be mixed with either. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air in service, which lowers its wet boiling point, so it is replaced on time rather than on condition.
